"A win is the aim"

Jill Scott looks ahead to England's first Euro 2017 fixture against Scotland

Jill Scott said her England team-mates are not getting carried away with the hype ahead of their Euro 2017 opener against neighbours Scotland.

The Lionesses take on Anna Signeul’s side in their opening Group D match on Wednesday evening.

England have won 21 of the 24 matches between the two sides but haven’t beaten Scotland in the last two attempts.

Scott said: “We all know how much press and publicity any England v Scotland game gets.

“There is going to be a massive build-up to it, especially because it’s our first match.

“We just have to be careful that we don’t play the occasion. We have to stick to the game plan.

“We’ve got a lot of experienced players so we’ll just keep our heads down and keep training well.

“The group won’t just come down to this one game but I always think it’s important to at least get one point on the board in your opening game.

“A win is the aim – and then we’ll go from there.”

After Scotland, England face Spain on Sunday 23 July and then Portugal next Thursday.
